Day 16: Today, I am grateful for the Marine Ball!
The Marine Ball is an annual tradition in our overseas diplomatic life. It’s one that (especially we women) start planning for months in advance – ordering the dress, so it arrives in time, and so on. It’s a fun and sought-after event, even though it also doubles as a “work” event because we all end up hosting local guests and contacts who come.
But it’s also been a special unique memory of our time overseas “before.” (Before our years “stuck” in the US, as I call them.)
It’s been twelve years since we have attended a Marine Ball. To me, it marks a symbolic re-entry to our previous overseas life. So I’m very grateful for our experience now – that we are back overseas where we can once again partake in this event.
And also, we had a blast this year while doing so!
